Chris Joyce is the founder and CEO of Gusher, a performance-based equity business. During the podcast, Chris discussed what a business mindset means to him. He believes it requires flexibility to listen to the markets while also being rigid with one's purpose and focus. Chris's end goal is to untap as much human potential as possible, which he believes will have a ripple effect on the world. He believes that businesses should always strive to make decisions only once. Chris discussed how Gusher helps to empower people to reach their full potential. Gusher provides resources for individuals to take control of their finances and career, by providing information, resources and tools to help them grow and succeed. By leveraging performance-based equity, Gusher is able to help individuals maximize their potential and achieve their goals. The speaker's attitude towards their career has shifted over time from being primarily focused on themselves to having a more far-reaching ripple effect. They grew up in what they called an Evil Brady Bunch, with a stepfather who was a rigid electrical engineer. This stepfather taught them the value of self-discipline and believing in oneself, which has been incredibly helpful for their success as an entrepreneur. Their stepfather was a colonel in the Air Force and the speaker credits him with instilling the importance of self-discipline and belief in oneself. The conversation is about the importance of developing self-belief and doing the difficult work that other people don't want to do in order to be successful as an entrepreneur. The speaker talks about his father's experience in the Air Force and how it taught him about humanity and that everyone has a little voice inside of them that they should listen to. He explains that people often have doubts and fears as well as negative input from their family and friends, but it is essential to protect and cultivate that inner voice. He cites David Goggins' phrase of do what others won't do or unable to do or don't want to do as a way to be successful, and Gary Vee's advice of not partying but rather focusing on work. He also shares his own experience of working in corporate for 14 years before starting his businesses and how it was not providing the value he was looking for.
