A feature length episode with Shelly O’Donovan, who is CEO of Authentic Influence Group. We go deep into her expertise of non-verbals in conversation, but we start with her degree in Political Science. This experience designed much of her early career.
Shelly started as an intern working with politicians after university where she learnt about the practical side of politics with her theoretical knowledge.
We discussed her experience in healthcare system at Pennsylvania. She developed relationships to influence on state and federal level. Shelly was passionate about healthcare because it impacted everyone.
She moved to GSK role, which meant with more people and a bigger budget she could become laser focussed on issues. The difference was that she was highly regulated, and the content had to be signed off by a legal team.
Her role at Authentic Influence Group is based on non- verbals, and why it is so important. Salespeople are often natural with non-verbals, but it is something that can be taught. We discussed the importance of the skill of listening to people.
We then go deep into communication through the pandemic period. Zoom has become the norm, but it has been a separator and a connecting vehicle in business. Now most people are going back to face to face and the role of open body language with masks was fascinating to talk about.
Lastly, the thing I took from this conversation was that we all influence people every day.
